Honoring Black Maternal Health Week in Colorado: A Sacred Collaboration Between Mahogany Mothers Circle & Sacred Seeds Birthworker Collective

April 11th – 17th, 2025

Black Maternal Health Week is more than a national campaign—it’s a sacred call to action. This year, Mahogany Mothers Circle is proud to stand in powerful partnership with the Sacred Seeds Birthworker Collective as we host a weeklong series of events in honor of Black maternal health, joy, and resilience.

From April 11th to April 17th, we’ll gather in community to uplift Black birthing people, center healing and education, and celebrate the work of Black birthworkers past and present. Each day is rooted in love, learning, and liberation.

This year’s theme: "Nourishing the Womb, Restoring the Village." We are reclaiming our birthright to wellness, joy, and collective care.

🌟 Special Guest: Chef Babette

We are beyond thrilled to welcome Chef Babette—plant-based wellness advocate, entrepreneur, and my dear cousin—to Colorado for this powerful week. Her vibrant energy, dedication to health, and soulful approach to wellness have long inspired me, and I can’t wait to share her light with our community.

She will lead a special event on April 16th: “Superfoods with Supermamas,” a celebration of nourishment through food, storytelling, and healing. Trust—this is one you won’t want to miss!

Listening to Black Voices: Join the Black Birthing Experience Focus Group

May 10th, 2025 | In Partnership with Baby & You and CDPHE

As part of our ongoing commitment to honoring the lived experiences of Black birthing people, we are hosting a Black Birthing Experience Focus Group on May 10th in collaboration with Baby & You and the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE).

This focus group is more than a meeting—it’s a space to listen, affirm, and act on the real needs of Black families navigating the postpartum journey.

đź’¬ Why This Focus Group Matters

The stories of Black birthing people are too often overlooked or dismissed in mainstream maternal health systems. Yet, it is these stories—rich with truth, wisdom, and resilience—that hold the key to creating more equitable and responsive care.

By centering Black voices in research and programming, we aim to:

  • Understand what support systems are working (and what’s missing)

  • Identify barriers to postpartum wellness and care access

  • Inform future services and policies designed for our community, by our community

This work is rooted in reproductive justice and the belief that every Black birther deserves safe, respectful, and culturally centered care—before, during, and after birth.

🤱🏾 Who We’re Inviting

We are currently recruiting 20 Black birthing individuals who are:

  • 3 months to 1 year postpartum

  • Willing to share their personal experiences in a small, supportive setting

  • Located in or able to travel to the Colorado area

Each participant will receive a thank you gift for their time, love, and insights.

đź’ś A Safe Space to Be Heard

This focus group will be a sacred container held with care—facilitated by culturally competent birthworkers who understand the nuances of Black postpartum life. Whether your journey has been joyful, challenging, or somewhere in between, your voice belongs here.

If you or someone you know fits the criteria and would like to participate, please reach out to us or register below.

Together, we are shaping the future of Black maternal health—one story, one solution, and one sister at a time.

Self Awareness Series A Huge Success

Reflections & Rising: Honoring Our Self-Awareness Workshop Series

Over the past few months, our Self-Awareness Workshop Series has been a sacred space of healing, honesty, and collective transformation. We gathered in community to pause, reflect, and reconnect with our inner knowing—walking gently together through themes of identity, boundaries, forgiveness, and purpose.

As the series comes to a close, we are filled with deep gratitude for every heart that showed up, every truth that was spoken, and every moment of connection that reminded us: you are not alone in this journey.

🌸 The Beauty That Blossomed

Each session was its own medicine, guided with care and intention by the incomparable Tia Meeks, whose seamless facilitation created a brave, loving container for growth and dialogue. Her grounding presence and wisdom helped us all go deeper, while still feeling held.

We were also honored to be graced each week by the powerful words of Saudii Queen, who offered soul-stirring poems that invited us to breathe, soften, and remember who we are. Her reflections opened our hearts and mirrored the emotions we often struggle to name.

These offerings were more than workshops—they were rituals of self-reclamation.

🎥 Stay Connected on Our YouTube Channel

If you missed the live series or simply want to revisit the wisdom shared, we invite you to subscribe to our Mahogany Mothers Circle YouTube Channel, where we’ll be uploading highlights and replays from the series.

🌱 What’s Next

While the series has closed, the work of self-awareness is never done. We carry these seeds forward as we move into Black Maternal Health Week and beyond, grounded in the knowledge that healing is a community act.

Until Next Time…

As we continue to nurture ourselves, our families, and our communities, may we carry these words from author and poet Audre Lorde:

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

Thank you for being part of this journey.
With love and power,
