Mahogany Mothers Circle I Year-End Newsletter

Closing the year in gratitude, reflection, and purpose

As we come to the close of this year, I want to pause and take a collective breath with you. Mahogany Mothers Circle continues to grow because of community, care, and commitment. This final newsletter of the year is a moment to honor what we built together and to share where we are headed next.

Celebrating Our Community & Partnerships

This year, Mahogany Mothers Circle deepened its impact through meaningful partnerships rooted in trust, alignment, and shared values. I extend my sincere gratitude to our partners who walked alongside us, supported our families, and helped us bring vision into practice:

  • Beacon House of Hope

  • Sacred Seeds Birthworker Collective

  • Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (Baby & You)

  • You Be You Early Learning

  • Chef Babette

  • Matrescence

  • Yoga Daze

  • WeeCycle

  • Natural Grocers

  • Honored Photography

  • New Hope Baptist Church

  • Caring & Sharing Resource Center

To our financial supporters: thank you. I have truly enjoyed meeting you, sharing the story of Mahogany Mothers Circle, and inviting you into this work. Your belief in our mission allows us to continue centering Black mothers, families, and birthworkers with intention and integrity.

Gratitude for Our Fiscal Sponsor

I want to offer special thanks to our fiscal sponsor, Social Good Fund. This year came with a steep learning curve in nonprofit operations, compliance, and partnerships. Social Good Fund has been responsive, thoughtful, and deeply caring in how they steward Mahogany Mothers Circle. Their guidance has strengthened our foundation and supported our growth every step of the way.

A Moment of Reflection: Atlanta & Storytelling

This month, I traveled back to Atlanta and had the opportunity to attend a film screening of Water Mama with Black Mamas Matter Alliance Inc.. Being in that space was grounding and affirming. The film held grief and loss alongside resilience and redemption—mirroring so much of what we witness in maternal health work. It reminded me why narrative, culture, and lived experience must remain at the center of systems change.

Holiday Giving in Action

This Christmas, because of collective generosity, we were able to gift 17 children with thoughtful toys through New Hope Baptist Church and Caring & Sharing Resource Center. This was a beautiful reminder that community care is not abstract—it is tangible, timely, and rooted in love.

Mark Your Calendars: What’s Ahead

January 4 | Brunch & Dialogue

We invite you to join us for Brunch & Dialogue, a community conversation centered on care before crisis, maternal mental health, and community-based solutions. This gathering will also introduce Sarah Woodson, creating space for dialogue, connection, and civic engagement in a relational and welcoming setting.

February 7 & February 21 | Training Partnership with Hard Beauty I https://hardbeauty.life/

We are excited to partner with Hard Beauty for two powerful February training sessions:

Session 1: Tapestry of Care I February 7th, 2026
This training introduces the Tapestry of Care framework, centering lived experience, relational support, and trauma-responsive practices when working with pregnant and parenting people. Participants will explore how peer support weaves together medical care, behavioral health, recovery, and community resources to build continuity and trust. The session emphasizes practical strategies for reducing stigma, strengthening engagement, and supporting whole-person healing across systems.

Session 2: Plans of Safe Care (POSC)I February 21st, 2026
This session reframes Plans of Safe Care as a supportive and empowering process rather than a punitive requirement. Participants will gain clarity on POSC requirements while learning to engage families with empathy, transparency, and collaboration. The focus is on centering parental voice, addressing social determinants of health, and integrating peer support to create realistic, strengths-based, and sustainable plans.

A Final Ask as We Enter the New Year

As we prepare for the first quarter, we are seeking $20,000 in donor support to sustain and expand our impact. These funds will allow us to:

  • Provide continued trauma-informed training for doulas

  • Launch a postpartum meal train feature

  • Host Black Maternal Health Week programming in April

  • Maintain our two annual retreats

  • Produce our signature Momsgiving partnership event with Matrescence

Your support directly strengthens care, dignity, and sustainability for Black mothers and birthworkers.

Thank you for walking with Mahogany Mothers Circle this year. We close this chapter grounded in gratitude and open the next with clarity, courage, and community.

With appreciation and purpose,

Marpessa Allen
